A restaurant manager and a commercial real estate broker said they have heard about the deal but did not want to speak on the record. A source in the medical community also said FOI will be moving into the building.

FOI did not return calls from the Tampa Bay Business Journal on Monday and Tuesday morning. DJM Realty DJM RealtyLatest from The Business Journalsin New York, which is managing the disposition of Borders property nationwide, and property owner Langer U.S. Investment in Winter Park did not respond to requests for information.

FOI has 11 locations in the Tampa Bay area, including its 100,000-square-foot headquarters on a 12-acre campus in Temple Terrace. The current South Tampa location is at 2106 Lois Ave.

It is unknown whether FOI is buying or leasing the 27,500-square-foot former bookstore at the corner of West Cypress Street. The property, built in 1996, is currently assessed at $2.5 million.

FOI describes itself as “Florida’s largest orthopaedic group” with 32 affiliated doctors and more than 500 support staff.
